Ask Marilyn: HOW DO YOU LIKE READING THIS?

Marissa Tautunk of Agoura Hills, California, writes:

Marilyn: Many people don't like emails and messages that are written in all capital letters, which are considered to be the equivalent of shouting. What do you think of messages that are written in all small letters? For example, do you mind reading "i love marilyn vos savant"?

Marilyn responds:

I guess not! BUT THE LOOK OF SHOUTING ISN'T THE ONLY REASON PEOPLE DON'T LIKE TO READ MESSAGES WRITTEN IN CAPITAL LETTERS. EVEN WITH STRAIGHTFORWARD TEXT (NOT PERSONAL MESSAGES), IT'S SIMPLY MORE DIFFICULT TO READ ANYTHING THAT'S WRITTEN IN UPPER-CASE LETTERS, SUCH AS THIS PARAGRAPH. HARD ON THE EYES, ISN'T IT?

messages written in lower-case letters are much easier to read, all right. i don't mind them.
