PARKERSBURG - The Greater Parkersburg Convention and Visitors Bureau mobile website recently earned accolades for its design and overall functionality by the International Academy of the Visual Arts.

The website earned a Marketing Effectiveness Award of Excellence in the Travel/Tourism category of 18th annual Communicator Awards sponsored by IAVA.

The Communicator Awards is the leading international awards program honoring creative excellence for communications professionals. This year's Communicator Awards received thousands of entries from companies and agencies of all sizes, making it one of the largest awards of its kind in the world, according to a news release.

"We launched the mobile version of our website last fall with a host of new 'bells and whistles' to provide visitors with quick access to information on the area, before or during their visit," Greater Parkersburg CVB President Steve Nicely said.

"TripAdvisor.com issued a travel trend report in early 2012 indicating that 47 percent of travelers use their mobile device for their travel needs at a destination; 37 percent use a mobile device for restaurants research; 27 percent use one for attractions research; and 26 percent use one for accommodations research. That's significant and growing. We recognized that growing trend and have made significant efforts to ensure we're catering to visitor needs and interests."

In designing the mobile version of GreaterParkersburg.com, the CVB collaborated with Cool Blue Interactive, and its agency of record, Stonewall Marketing. This marks the third international website award that the bureau has earned in the past five years.
