PARKERSBURG -Bridgeport native David McCollam and his "team" were too much for the rest of the field to handle as the 32-year old dominated the 4th annual Chick-fil-A Road Race 10K Saturday morning.
"It (Team Run Free) is based off of the verse in the bible-John 8:36," explained McCollam, who covered the 6.2-mile course in 32 minutes and 38.68 seconds. "The purpose (of the shirt) is to spread the relationship between man and God and spread his message."
The message McCollam spread on Saturday, however, was one of a different nature as he broke away from a five-man pack as the runners turned onto Washington Avenue and never looked back in capturing his first title.

Winning their first Chick-fil-A Road Race 10K on Saturday morning were 32-year-old David McCollam of Bridgeport, right, and 24-year old Brittany Schob of Vienna. Nearly 300 runners and walkers competed in the fourth annual race that begins on 20th Street and ends at Stadium Field.
"I just wanted to give a good effort today," continued the winner. "I knew it was going to be a challenging course and the competition anytime you run in this area is going to be stiff."
Not stiff enough, however.
Runner-up Jeremy Anderson of Beverly, Ohio, was able to stay within eye-sight of McCollam until the duo reached Broad Street. But, less than a mile later, the 21-year-old was nowhere in sight as McCollam covered the first half of the race in 16 minutes and 13 seconds.

Last year's winner David Miller of Athens, Ohio, finished third with a time of 36:53.03 while fourth place went to Parkersburg's Nathan Cunningham (38:32.47) and fifth went to Vienna's Andrew Nestor (40:16.37).
Rounding out the top 10 finishers were Matthew McCollum (40:25.02), Logan Eckels (40;27.05), Trace Schaad (40:38.11), Joe Wiltsey (41:38.27) and Ben Williams (41:53.23).
Also coming away with her first Chick-fil-A title was 24-year Vienna resident Brittany Schob. The Ohio Valley University graduate covered the 10K distance in 39 minutes and 25.5 seconds to out-distance runner-up Jocelyne Majoy (43:03.8) by nearly four minutes.
"This is one of my favorite races to run," explained Schob, who was competing in the race for the third time. "There is always great competition and the running community here does a great job of coming out and supporting the runners."
Third place went to Belpre's Stephanie Williams (43:07) while the rest of the top 5 included Christy Brague (43:37.54) and Rachel Cunningham (46:09.44).
Like McCollam, Schob broke away from the pack early, running mainly with the lead group of males and finished fifth overall among the 296 runners and walkers that competed.
Ironically, McCollam is not the first member of his family to capture the mid-May race.
"My father-in-law is Carl Hatfield and he always loved running here," said the winner.
Winning the walk division titles was Marietta's Tim Finkel (1:02.38) and Deanna Farrah (1:03.31).
Serving as Gold sponsors for this year's race were Solvay Advanced Plymers, Mountain River Physical Therapy, Gary Rhodes Agency, LLC, River City Runners & Walkers Club, Chapman Printing, Dr. Pepper and Pepsi while Silver sponsors included Culligan, Auntie Anne's, Great Steak Grill, RRCA, Waste Management, and Steers Heating & Cooling.
