Was fatal shooting necessary?

March 25, 2012

Another unnecessary death? I must comment again about the unnecessary force the police use. When I read and heard the story about Jody Wilson, I was saddened.

Why wasn't the SWAT team called? They know how to shoot someone in the arm or leg so they could disarm the suspect, so they could arrest them without fatally shooting them. There was other ways to disarm the suspect, like coming in the back way and surprising him from behind. I could go on and on, but in my mind there's too many gun-happy policemen.

I'm so against this. Maybe I'm alone in this, but to take another young life so soon after the death of the teenage girl when they chased the suspect until they wrecked. According to the mother they just opened fired on him without warning. I hope the officers rest at night knowing it could of only taken one shot to the arm to disarm the suspect. They need to have a serious discussion with the rookies or the long-term police officers, to shoot to kill, "only'' if it's the "last" resort.
