Cruisers getting updated look

By ROGER ADKINS, radkins@newsandsentinel.com
POSTED: August 21, 2008

PARKERSBURG - The police department's cruisers are getting an updated look.

Parkersburg police Chief Gerald Board said the cruisers will be receiving new decals and lettering. Several of the cruisers already have the new look and Board said he hopes all the cars in the department's fleet will be updated over the next two to three months.

"We recently bought eight new cruisers and decided to change over to a new look," Board said. "We just decided we wanted to make a change."

The police department's vehicles have had the same look for several years. Board said he's noticed the decals and lettering tend to be susceptible to sun damage. Part of the design process took that into consideration, he said.

"These will be less susceptible to that," Board said.

Many of the cruisers with the current lettering needed to be redone anyway.

"Some of the older ones were in need of being redone. We felt this would be a golden opportunity to go with a new look," Board said.

Board said the city council and Mayor Robert Newell were supportive of change.

"I definitely appreciate all of their support and encouragement. I think it's a modern, more updated look than what we had," he said.

The new decals and lettering have a cleaner, simpler look, Board said. The white cruisers have blue striping and lettering, along with a police patch decal and a 911 decal.

The work is being done by Sign Language on Murdoch Avenue, Board.

"They're terrific. I'm very happy with their work. They're very professional," he said.

The new ones look good, especially the ones with the new slim lightbars. Finally getting with the times. Now if they would get more officers so you don't have to wait for hours for a police officer to answer your call
