’Jackets, Knights series resumes
KIDWELL — Williamstown and Tyler Consolidated are in the same boat. Both programs enter their season-opener Friday night at Tyler Consolidated High School with quarterbacks who have never completed a pass at the varsity level. Junior Adam Kerns takes over where Drew Townsend left off for a Yellowjacket squad which reached the state championship game before losing to Wheeling Central Catholic. The Silver Knights will rely on sophomore Jordan Smith instead of Hunter Kehrer. Both Townsend and Kehrer have graduated, so now it is time for Kerns and Smith to step into the spotlight. “Jordan has the gotten enough reps, but does not necessarily have the game experience,” Tyler Consolidated coach Rob Caldwell said. “We are not going to put him in a position where we put the game on his shoulders.” Both quarterbacks were not complete locks when preseason practices began.
