RAVENSWOOD — Missed opportunities.
That’s how Ravenswood High School football coach Dick Sturm describes the Red Devils somewhat frustrating 2007 season, which saw RHS finish 5-5 and miss the state playoffs for the second straight year.
“We had our opportunities,’’ Sturm said, “but we didn’t capitalize.’’
Rather than dwelling on the past, Sturm is looking to the future in general and the immediate future in particular.
He’s excited about the 2008 version of the Red Devils, even though the football program has been hit with academic problems even before the season gets under way.
A dozen returning players didn’t meet the required grade point average to play football, costing the Red Devils eight returning starters and obviously a great deal of experience.
What’s left is a 40-man roster whose members Sturm describes as “anxious to play and willing to work.
