MARIETTA—As talented as quarterback Cody Westbrook and wide receiver Sean Munfield are, first-year Marietta High head football coach Andy Schob believes that the two seniors will really turn some heads if the Tiger line and running game clicks.
“Cody’s grown,” Schob said. “He was good last year, but now he’s grown with an understanding of a senior.
“I think with our line and running game, that will take some pressure off him and add another dimension to the kind of team we want to be.”
Of course, what Schob and MHS are striving for on offense is a balance between throwing the football and grinding it out on the ground — like in the Athens rout.
Right now, there’s no question that the Tigers have big play capability when Westbrook hooks up with Munfield, or Zane Eschbaugh, or any other pass catcher.
Last year, in his first season as a starting varsity QB, Westbrook completed 143 of 314 passes for a school-record 2,203 yards and 15 touchdowns.
