Belpre hopes to keep streak alive
BELPRE — Last season was Curt Shriver’s first ever as a head coach. All rookie head honchos wish they had his success. Despite taking over the Belpre football program in mid-summer, longtime Golden Eagle assistant Shriver may have started out 0-2, but straightened things out to put together a seven-game winning streak to capture the Tri-Valley Conference Ohio Divsion championship and finish at 7-4 after notching their first Ohio state playoff berth in 19 years. Although Belpre bowed in its last two games — to Meigs in the regular-season finale and to top regional playoff seed Columbus Ready in a Division V opening-round contest — Shriver has benefited from the enthusiasm generated in the school by the Golden Eagles’ success last season. That manifested itself midway through this past school year when Shriver had signups for 2008.
