What is NIE
The Parkersburg News and Sentinel is dedicated to the education of the children in our community. Newspapers are an invaluable resource for teaching concepts and skills in all subject areas and grade levels. Teachers find newspapers to be excellent teaching tools to help students improve reading and writing skills, build better vocabularies, develop creative abilities, develop real-life skills and so much more.

Textbooks are often outdated, many times prior to their release. Newspapers are "living textbooks" that help bridge the gap between classroom curriculum and the real world. Each day's newspaper offers its own unique educational opportunity. Newspapers write history as it unfolds and expose children to current and community events that affect them and their families. Reading about local, as well as international, events helps give students a better awareness and understanding of the world around them. Newspapers can give our students a significant power; one that history has shown to be mightier than swords or guns ... the "power of the pen."sburg News and Sentinel is dedicated to the education of the children in our community.
