Time for city series to have competitive game
PARKERSBURG - Looking at the record of the two participating teams in Friday night’s annual city rivalry game, one easily could conclude that this is going to be a competitive game. While Parkersburg South is 4-2 and Parkersburg High is 3-3, the odds are against this game going down to the wire. Not since 1996 has the city series witnessed a game decided by a margin of one touchdown or less. It was a dozen years ago when the Big Reds held on for a 21-14 win. Since that time, we’ve witnessed eight more PHS victories and three South wins, but none of them were nail-biters. Will this year’s game keep everybody in their seats until the final gun. Or will traffic have thinned out by the time the teams leave the field? That’s what the biggest crowd of the year is going to find out. Both of the participating teams are good stories. Start with Parkersburg High, the two-time defending state champions.
