Crusaders handle Williamstown
WILLIAMSTOWN — Parkersburg Catholic, which scored the game’s first eight points here Saturday night, jumped out to an 11-1 lead and withstood a late Williamstown rally as the visiting Crusaders picked up a key Little Kanawha Conference North Division road win by dropping the Yellowjackets, 68-56. On a night when the Crusaders of head coach Joe Garrett shot a fiery 61.5 percent (24-of-39) from the field, host Williamstown never had an answer even though the Yellowjackets trailed by just five twice in the fourth quarter at 52-47 and 54-49 with 4:52 and 4:19 remaining, respectively. “I can’t really say,” Garrett said when asked to put a finger on his team’s explosive start. “But, we got off to a real good start Friday night (against Ritchie County) and I just think it’s all mental. We hit a lot of shots.” Indeed PCHS (5-1, 4-0) did as the visitors canned eight of their first 10 attempts and led 18-9 late in the first following a Cole Cwynar 3-pointer.
