Wood County sees growth
PARKERSBURG — As the total compensation to workers grew nationwide between 2006 and 2007, the Mid-Ohio Valley also saw growth in most areas. Total compensation of U.S. workers grew 5.2 percent in 2007 and most U.S. counties shared in that growth, according to statistics from the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA). Compensation grew in more than 90 percent of the 3,111 counties in the U.S., as the average annual compensation per job in the U.S. grew by 4.1 percent to $53,892. Inflation, as measured by the national price index for personal consumption expenditures, grew 2.6 percent in 2007. Wood County saw a 1.25 percent growth in compensation received by area employees from $1,821,885,000 in 2006 to $1,844,814,000 in 2007. Keith Burdette, president of the Wood County Development Authority, attributed the county’s compensation growths to area employers continuing to do business and expanding. ‘‘All the major employers in this area have remained strong,’’ he said.
