The Widow's Season

Sarah begins to question herself when she sees her husband standing in a grocery store three months after her drowned in the river. Though his body was never found, she had went through the motions of having his memorial, giving some of his things to his brother and even scheduling a show for his paintings. The group of widows she meets with say they say their husbands wherever they went and is just a trick of the mind, but Sarah isn't sure. And when he actually knocks on the door and asks to come in, apologizing for leaving her and hiding out from life in their cabin, Sarah begins to wonder - is David really alive? Is he a ghost with unfinished business? Or does she have unfinished business with him?

This is an interesting book dealing with grief and relationships. Sarah's journey in the year after David's death is a moving one and one that will definitely have the reader questioning everything until the end. The prose and pacing of the book has almost a dream-like feel, leading to the moody and gothic atmosphere of the story.

"The Widow's Season" is published by Berkley. It is $14 and 303 pages long.
